Yuri Gagarin

Gagarin.jpgYuri Gagarin (1934-1968) became the first person in world history to fly into the outer space. The Vostok-1 spacecraft, with Gagarin on board, was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on April 12, 1961. His flight took 108 minutes and earned him the highest distinction: Hero of the Soviet Union.

After the flight Yuri Gagarin became a living legend and gained a lot of popularity. Rumor has it that he used to carry a box of buttons with him to replace the ones “accidentally” stolen by the fans when they were hugging their idol.
